Hungarian partners and cyclists got acquainted with Transcarpathian tourism capacities

From 28 to 30 September a group of Hungarian experts visited Transcarpathia and studied its tourism capacities. The guests were invited by Ukrainian-Hungarian Regional Development Centre in the frame of project titled “Integrated network of bicycle touring routes along the Ukrainian-Hungarian border” (HUSKROUA/1001/012).

The project titled “Integrated network of bicycle touring routes along the Ukrainian-Hungarian border” is implemented by Ukrainian-Hungarian Regional Development Centre in the frame of ENPI CBC Hungary-Slovakia-Romania-Ukraine 2007-2013 Program.

The guests visited a lot of Transcarpathian places of interest, met with local tourism experts  in Uzhgorod and Berehivi TICs, as well as participated in “Bereg-Fest” and a bicycle tour called “Fire on Wheels”.

On Thursday the group visited Uzhgorod tourist information centre. Victoria Malesh, its manager, described the tasks of the TIC and spoke on the main priorities of bicycle tourism development in Uzhgorod and in Transcarpathia. Afterwards a walking tour to Uzhgorod castle, Folk and Architecture museum, Greek-Catholic Cathedral and local churches followed. The first day ended with wine tasting in an ancient wine cellar of Serednye village in Uzhgorod district. This cellar is a monument of architecture dated from ХVІ century.

On the next day the guests made a trip to a number of local places of interest, e.g. Mukachevo castle, Chinadievo castle, Schoenborn palace, trout farm in Zhdenievo village, Svaliava Memorial Park, etc.

On 30 September as part of the “Bereg-Fest” holiday in Berehovo, a bicycle tour called “Fire on Wheels” was organized. Hungarian guests also joined the event. Bicycle tour aimed at promoting bicycle tourism and advertising the border region where new bicycle lanes should be built in the frame of project titled “Integrated network of bicycle touring routes along the Ukrainian-Hungarian border”. Experts of Berehovo TIC guided the participants and provided with modern bicycles.

Hungarian guests got a lot of bright impressions, they photographed interesting places, picturesque environments, tasted curative mineral water. They were very pleased to participate in bicycle tour and shared with local experts their views on the present tourism development situation in Transcarpathia and expressed interesting advice on its improvement in the future.
